Tropical Summer Dream
I have spent what feels like forever searching for the perfect scent that actually smells like a tropical vacation without being too artificial or sugary. It seems like every time I find something beachy it ends up smelling like a cheap candle or really strong coconut oil which is not what I am going for at all. When I first heard about the St. Barts scent from OUAI I was really curious to see if it lived up to the reputation I had seen online. I have been using their hair products for a long time and I always loved the way they smelled so I had pretty high hopes for this hair and body mist. I wanted something that I could throw in my bag and spray whenever I needed a little refresh during the day especially when it is hot outside and I want to feel a bit more put together. After using it for a while now I feel like I have a really good grasp on how it performs and what makes it special compared to other sprays I have tried in the past.
My Honest Thoughts
I recently picked up this mist because I wanted something that felt like a vacation every time I sprayed it and I am honestly so happy with it. It starts off with this really bright and fruity smell that comes from the dragon fruit and it is not too sweet or sugary which I really appreciate. There is a touch of orange blossom and tuberose that makes it feel a bit more grown up than the usual tropical sprays you find at the mall. I love that I can spray it in my hair and on my skin at the same time and it never feels sticky or heavy or gross. It has this very light and airy feel that reminds me of being at a beach club or sitting by the pool with a cold drink in my hand on a Saturday afternoon. The smell is just so fresh and clean while still being very warm and inviting because of the amber and musk notes that stick around after it dries down on your skin. I noticed that it does not have that harsh alcohol smell that a lot of body sprays have when you first spray them which is such a relief. Instead it just smells high quality and expensive from the very first second you use it. I have used it before going to the gym and also before going out for dinner with friends and it feels appropriate for both situations because it is so versatile and light. It really makes me feel like I am back on a trip even when I am just sitting at my desk working or running errands around town.
Results and Performance
After using this for a few weeks now I can say that it has become my most used fragrance because it is just so easy to grab and go without thinking about it too much. It leaves my hair smelling amazing all day long and I love how it does not dry out my hair or leave any weird residue behind like some other hair mists I have tried in the past. One thing I would definitely change if I could is how long the scent actually lasts on my skin because I find myself needing to reapply it after a few hours to keep that initial punch of fragrance alive. It seems to stay in my hair much longer than it stays on my skin so I wish the staying power was a bit more balanced across both so I did not have to keep the bottle in my purse for touch ups. I also wish the bottle was a little bit bigger so I did not feel like I was going to run out so fast since I use it every single morning and sometimes twice a day. Even with those small issues I still think it is worth it because the actual scent is so beautiful and it makes me feel so put together even when I am just wearing a simple t shirt and jeans. It really captures that feeling of summer and sunshine in a way that feels very authentic and not at all fake or forced. If you want to smell like a luxury resort and get a ton of compliments from strangers then you should definitely give this a try because it is such a treat to use every day.
The Scent Journey
The notes in this mist are really well balanced and that is why I think it works for so many different people. The top note of dragon fruit gives it that immediate spark of energy that you want in a morning spray. Then the middle notes of orange blossom and tuberose start to come through and they add this floral layer that is very feminine but not in a floral shop kind of way. It is more like a tropical garden in the evening. The base notes of baltic amber and musk are what really ground it and give it that warmth. It is not one of those scents that is just one note from start to finish. It actually changes a little bit as you wear it which I find really interesting for a body mist. Most mists just disappear or stay exactly the same until they fade away but this one has a little more depth to it. I have found that it layers really well with other lotions too. If I use a plain coconut or vanilla lotion and then spray this on top it creates a really nice custom scent that lasts a bit longer. It is the perfect addition to a summer beauty routine because it is so effortless.
Final Verdict
Overall this has become a staple in my routine and I do not see myself stopping anytime soon. It is the kind of product that just makes you happy when you use it. Even though I mentioned I wish it lasted longer on the skin the actual experience of spraying it is so nice that I do not mind the reapplication that much. It is light enough that you do not have to worry about bothering people around you with a scent that is too strong but it is still noticeable enough that people will ask what you are wearing. For the price point and the quality of the fragrance I think OUAI really hit the mark with this one. It is fun and youthful but still feels like something a professional woman can wear without feeling like she is wearing a teenager perfume. If you are on the fence about it I would say just go for it because it really is a beautiful scent that will make you feel like you are on a permanent summer break.
